OME SWEET HOME, ecogite and guest house in Champagne

Our story

1995

Le Baticelher,
our first gîte

Our story begins in 1993, we were very young when we bought an old house at auction in Laubressel. It was completely transformed after 18 months of work led by Yves to become our first Gîtes de France certified gîte. Le Baticelher gîte opened on April 5, 1995.

1996

Le Sourcier,
Second gîte

In 1996, we acquired an old family house, all made of stone and once belonging to our ancestors. It was located in Argançon, 40 kilometers from our home in Laubressel. With Yves’s determination to manage the renovation project and some great ideas, Le Sourcier gîte opened in July 1998. The location, just 1 km from Nigloland, was ideal, and the gîte was a great success, building a loyal clientele for 18 years, until the gîte was sold in 2016.
2012

L'Aillefol,
Third gîte

In 2012, through succession, we continued the activity of the AILLEFOL gîte which had been managed since 1990 by Chantal’s parents. This cottage was popular with tourists and fishing enthusiasts because it was located in Géraudot, a village on the shores of the Lac de la forêt d’Orient. The cottage will be resold in 2023.

For 20 years we managed 3 gîtes and took on our respective professions in industrial maintenance and as independent sales advisor in a mutual insurance company and Bank.

2013

An ambitious guest house project

Following a restructuring in Yves’ company, we are imagining a new project by launching a feasibility study for the construction of a wooden frame house with the aim of creating a guest house.
Construction began in 2013.
Architect and master carpenter Erwin Schriever designed the house’s frame.

2015

Opening of our guest house Ome Sweet Home

Ome Sweet Home opened on May 11, 2015 after 15 months of work, a great construction adventure during which we were able to learn and share with local artisans and flourish in decoration.

The name Ome Sweet Home refers to our last name and the expression Home Sweet Home, perfectly suited to our objective: to offer a warm and comfortable guest house to which we want to return, a peaceful feeling of being “at home”.

The guesthouse business with table d’hôtes has met with gradual success. We then decided to devote ourselves fully to the Guest Rooms. We then sold two gîtes, L’Aillefol and Le Sourcier, followed by Le Baticelher in September 2024.

2024

Our eco-lodge project

In February 2024, a new construction adventure begins with the creation of a new “high-end” timber-framed gîte replacing the Baticelher to continue offering gîte stays. “Cœur Au Bois” is located near our guest house, thus allowing us to share the Ome Sweet Home wellness area.

2025

Opening of Cœur au Bois

Our ecogite Cœur au Bois was inaugurated on March 24, 2025, by the MP for Aube, Ms. Valérie Bazin-Malgras. The lodge opened on April 5, 2025, exactly 30 years to the day after our tourism business began. Cœur au Bois is certified Ecogîte and ranked 5 épis by Gîtes de France.

With our ecogite Cœur au Bois and our guest house Ome Sweet Home, we now offer stays in accommodations built exclusively in an eco-responsible manner using ecological materials and making maximum use of local know-how.
